Logging an email address with the mud can help you in two ways.
First, should the mud go down for any period of time, the mud’s
administration can include you in an email letting everyone know
what’s going on. Second, should you ever forget your password,
having a logged email address for that character can help the
mud’s leadership get you back on without risking the security of
your character (it ensures that the person asking for a password
is in fact the person who created that character).
PotP does not send out mass emails; you will not be spammed by the
mud staff. And your email address remains secure; the command is
part of a ‘blind’ system that allows the mud leadership to email
you using your character name, without having to know your email
address.
